Macbook Pro M1Pro doesn't recognize 3rd party keyboard layout

Hi community.

I'm trying to use my 3rd party keyboard with my M1Pro Macbook Pro running the latest version of IOS. I'm still somewhat of a new mac user. The keyboard is an Akko 3084b plus, with bluetooth. It is a windows layout keyboard, qwerty danish. As I'm using the device in danish, I should probably ask a dansih site, but I got redirected here, if there is a danish version of the community and you can redirect me there, I'd appreciate so and repost there.

Connecting and keeping a stable connection is no problem. I'm aware that because it is a windows layout, the windows and ctrl keys are replaced by cmd and option. That is no issue. But the fn key does not react and some of the typewriter keys, that is to say non-function keys, have been switched. I can see through the keyboard viewer that it has not recognized the right layout. But my mac too has danish layout and only the danish language installed. I've tried asking ChatGPT, who said my best solutions might be getting a different keyboard or installing 3rd party software that can remap the keyboard. But I'd prefer not resolving to 3rd party software, just to get a keyboard to work.

Is it a problem with the keyboard, should I just get a new that functions better with mac or is there a smart function on my mac to resolve the issue?

Thanks for the great detail!

The switching of the keys at the corners of the left edge sounds like a keyboard "type" problem (your keyboard is ISO but the screen output is ANSI). This note may help with that:

How To Fix Keyboard Type Problems - Apple Community

Apple does not use Control to make characters, only alt/option and alt/option + shift.

Regarding the odd behavior of those keys on the bottom row, I think you need to ask the maker of the keyboard and in any forums they may have. Sometimes special keyboards like that have settings of their own that can change how things work. That may also be the case for the keyboard "type".

Let us know if you are able to get it work better (or not).

I did read about the "pc" versions Apple provides, and indeed no luck finding one for danish. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, there aren't that many users in this small a country so the demand is probably low. I'll link an image of my keyboard. The blue artisanal keys with icons are actually ecs in the top left corner with the key for $ and § bellow it. the key on the right side of the backspace is home. Thank you for helping.

I hope this serves as good enough an explanation, I just went over all keys to make sure I identified the problems. I'll link an image of what the keyboard viewer shows the layout to be, which is exactly how my macbooks build in keyboard looks. An this doesn't match the connected 3rd party keyboard. I've tried drawing in on an image, where the issues are.

First of the Fn function key doesn't react at all and the keyboard viewer doesn't show any key presses, therefore using the top f-row also doesn't do anything. Then it switches the key above tab (§ $) with the key to the right of left shift (> <). The right alt key on my 3rd part keyboard is shown in the viewer to be taking up the space of the right option key, but when pressed, it functions as the control instead.

The key left of the top part of my enter, types entirely different symbols when pressed together with control, compared to when I hid the buttons on the macs build in keyboard. Of course as you can see on the pictures, the row to the right of enter with page up and all aren't shown in the viewer, but I don't mind that as I never use them.

I hope my explanation makes sense.

Hi Tom.

I tried following the guide, but with no success, I'd rather not download a 3rd party app, like Karabiner, that makes deep changes in my device. So I tried writing the company behind my keyboard and am now waiting for them to reply. If that doesn't work either, I think I'll try and buy a normal none mechanical mac keyboard and see what happens, I don't mind spending the money if it's the easy solution, I'm not really a tech-guy. I guess this is kust the consequences of speaking a language with some extra funny letters, haha.

Jokes aside. Thank you for your help, I at the very least got some valuable inside as to where to look for issues and this certainly hasn't changed my mind if switching to mac was a good idea, it's way more comfortable working with mac as a graphic designer.

If I don't forget it, I'll post an update on this thread of whether the producer knows a solution or whether I bought a new.
