Not delivered messages after adding area code to contacts on iPhone

I moved countries and sent a group text telling family my new number but forgot to add the area code to their contacts. I’ve rectified that but now I get Not delivered messages. I’ve tried everything I can think of to fix this and would really appreciate some help. TIA
