Published Motion Template does not show up in FCP

Hi :)

So, I'm on to a new tutorial. This time it's on Rigging and Publishing. I have to admit this is pretty cool stuff.

And I was moving along beautifully. Then all of a sudden it seems to have stopped working the way it should?

As you can see from my screenshots - in Motion the Background Animation has been Published. Yet coming over to FCP this new option of Background Animation (containing a Fade/In Out and Slide In/Out animation option) isn't there. It has been working for all the other parameters...Build In/Out, Customize Color etc. that I built so far, so I know I've been doing ok up until now.

I seriously feel like I did everything exactly the same...Published it in Motion, double clicked on the Title to update it in the Timeline in FCP...but the new parameter setting of Background Animation doesn't load or show up. I even pulled it in again as a "new title" to the timeline and it still just all looks the same.

It should be noted that everything works perfectly in Motion. I change from Fade On/Off to Slide Up/Down and play the animation and everything is great. Move over after Publishing to FCP and nothing. I was thinking I might have to go in and restart the tutorial but I'm an hour into it all ready and that would be a bummer....but I will cuz I need to learn. But, before I go that far - any ideas as to where I'm going wrong?

Thank you!!

Hi BenB,

I actually did do that, and they are incredibly helpful - only this time I found it before they could even answer. As I was going over it again (for like the 3rd time) I had to close down my computer and I was asked if I wanted to "Save". I did and as I did that it triggered me to understand that OH! Of course! I needed to Save it! When I went back in to FCP sure enough it was updated.

In this particular instance I was not prompted to "Save" and so that step was skipped. I went over and over that part in the tutorial and it is just not said. I believe that is why everything was working perfectly up until that point. Which is why everything was so confusing to me.

And being such an incredible newbie at all this, I didn't catch that the prompt was missed, or that it was what I needed to do! It's in Part 3 and I'm still really trying to understand how it all works.

I am not complaining exactly. These tutorials along with this forum have really helped me take it to the next level from just watching the YouTuber videos. I'm actually glad (after it's solved!) when things like this happen - it really makes it so I don't ever forget about that particular issue again! :).

And I really wasn't going to say anything - because truth be known I'm really almost embarrassed. I feel like it's like the IT guy coming in to fix my computer and finding out it isn't coming on because I didn't hit the start button - or something like that. Lol

But, maybe by my 'fessing up it might help someone else at some point! Thanks again!!

You are in the best of hands with Fox.

Just a quick heads up: you probably know this already, but when you make changes to a template in Motion as you are using in FCP, the changes do not filter through to the timeline.

When you save the new version, you need to drag the template from the browser over the one in timeline and replace it; then you will have access to the new version.

Hey Fox! (Thanks Luis for responding too! :)

I am doing Ripple Training's Rigging and Publishing in Motion 5. And the very first part of it does have free access - but I'm too far into it and you would have to pay for where I'm at now.

I understand that it may be too hard to find the variable. And it's kind of ok to redo the tutorial. I mean that's how I've learned what I've learned so far (practice, practice, practice!) - that and troubleshooting with you ha ha

I seriously don't want to waste your valuable time trying to find something that I've most likely done wrong at some point, and that is only on a tutorial. I'd rather save that time for an actual Project I'm stuck on! Besides who knows what button or key I've accidentally hit during the process? Maybe I can try and find a back up file and not have to go all the way through it. Either way it's a learning process right?

It is super good to "see" you and thanks for always being there!
