Running Mac Mini 15. 5. My Brother ink jet printer MFC-J485DW will only print in black/white even though color is enabled in both places. My color cartridges are brand new. I talked to Brother support and they said the problem was on the Mac side. I removed the printer and added it again - did not fix the problem.

Problem Solved!
I decided to perform an obvious test - use the copy function - it came out B&W, I knew then it had nothing to do with my MAC. I finally was able to talk to a competent support person at Brother and she suggested cleaning the heads which solved the problem.

Reset the printing system, and re-add the printer:
Make new admin user, log out & into the new user, does it work there?

Good to know, what I meant by the other question is if the same thing happens whether you print from Preview, Mail, Pages, etc.
If you print to PDF does that show color?
Is the 08/22/2024 (Q) firmware loaded?
Are you using Brother drivers, or AirPrint?

Can you say if this happens when printing any document type? Or whether this happens no matter what app you try printing from?
Today I removed the printer and added it again. Mac somehow upgraded my driver to 4 (used to be 3). On the Brother support page I don't see any drivers for my printer past macOS 12.x. I don't see any dates or driver versions there for my printer.

Under "Version" it shows single letter Q, I saw it before, looked a bit strange to me hence I disregarded it.
