Disable dictation in messages app but keep Siri active

For the love of all things holy, with all the updates and new iPhones you would think there could be a way to disable dictation in text messages without disabling Siri. I cannot count how many times I have accidentally recorded a voice message for 20 minutes because it activates so easily. Luckily I haven’t accidentally sent the voice message, but I’m sure it’s just a matter of time.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue and if so, can you share tips on how to address the extremely annoying and potentially harmful issue? Specifically for an iPhone 16 pro max.

You can turn off Dictation for Messages and still have access to Siri. Go to Settings>General>Keyboard>Enable Dictation and turn that off. When you turn it off it shows a message about information dictation uses to respond to requests is also used for Siri, but Siri is still active. I just tested it on my device, turning off dictation, but Siri will still respond to requests.
