Can't copy iPhoto libraries from NAS to Mac
I have a DS211 (using DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 8) that has worked
flawlessly for years. A couple of years ago I put two new, larger
drives inside the enclosure and things have continued to work fine. I
have a Timeshare drive, and a few separate backup "drives" on it. A
specific one I have is my iPhoto libraries. For years, I created a new
library at the start of each new year to control the size of the working
library each year. I've never had any issues accessing them, or
copying them from the NAS to the Mac or vice versa.
For years I ran a 2010 iMac (last year with SuperDrive CD/DVD
writer/burner). But it was stuck on MacOS High Sierra. That finally
started causing problems, so a few months ago I upgraded to a 2019 iMac -
last Intel version with 27" monitor. I still have no issues accessing
the NAS through the web interface, writing backup files to it, etc. But
yesterday I realized I couldn't open my old iPhoto libraries on my new
iMac (OS Sonoma 14.7.5). Typically they would say they needed to be
converted to Photos, which was no issue on my old iMac on High Sierra.
But it basically said on the new machine that Photos was too new to deal
with them (not sure why!). No problem, I would just go to my old 2010
iMac, upgrade the libraries with Photos on MacOS High Sierra, then I could open
them on the new Mac (I've already done that with some of my newer
libraries, so I know it works).
BUT, no matter what I do, on both machines, I now get this error:
"The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to
access some of the items."
Every library I've tried to open via iPhoto (on the old iMac), or
copy to either iMac gives me the same error. I have done the "Get Info"
and checked permissions. All of them say I have full read/write
control. I'm logging in as the admin to the NAS. I've checked the
permissions on the NAS via the web interface of the NAS. Everything is
checked giving me full access. I'm logging in as the person who copied
them to the NAS originally. I've opened up the package contents and see
three folders (in the example one I've posted) with the red circle/line
on it. And if I try to open them they say "The folder “Data” can’t be
opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents." That
SEEMS like it would be the source of my problems, but when I do the "Get
Info" on those they say I have full read/write access and they aren't
locked (just like all the other libraries or folders.
I CAN use the NAS web interface and copy or move the iPhoto libraries
from one 'drive' to another on the NAS itself - for example from my
iPhoto Library drive to my ColeShare drive seen in the screenshots. So
it must be an issue getting them from the NAS to the Mac (either one) -
but I don't know what else to check or what to do.
I've read a ton of pages related to this error, but nothing has
actually been tied to my specific situation of copying files from NAS to
Mac. ANY help from anyone is greatly appreciated!!
