I have always used iTunes on my Windows PC to transfer songs from my music library to my iPod. Today I opened iTunes, and it now only deals with audiobooks and podcasts. Without subscribing to Apple Music, how do I use iTunes to access my music library and continue transferring songs to my iPod?

For reasons unknown Apple have made it such that if you install any of Apple Music for Windows, Apple TV for Windows or Apple Devices for Windows then iTunes is limited to managing audiobooks and podcasts, and all device management features like syncing and backup are supressed. This causes much confusion. For iTunes to work correctly again remove each of the newer apps. The alternative is to embrace the new apps, but personally I find these limited in comparison to iTunes, missing many useful features.

It may be worth trying the shift-start-iTunes method to actively select the .itl file that should contain your library. If you still get the error message try Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows and/or check for interference from anti-virus software.

Thanks for the response but it doesn't really address my situation. I now know that I have to download Apple Music and Apple TV as well as the Apple Devices apps to do what iTunes used to do for me in enabling me to send songs from my music library to the iPod. I now see some of the songs in my library in Apple music, but not all. How do I get all of them? Also, in Apple devices, none of the songs in the library show up for me to select to sync to the iPod. What am I doing wrong?
Turingtest2, I deleted Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Devices for Windows, and I was able to access iTunes Music. However, there was only 1 song in my Library, which I had purchased earlier this year. Can you or anyone else in the Apple Community advise me on how to get the rest of my Library restored within iTunes? Via Explorer, I still can see the various song files.

If you previously had all of your content visible in iTunes on this PC, or the library has been copied from another computer where it was all listed, then see Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash - Apple Community.

Thanks turingtest2. I thought Apple gave me no choice but to use these other apps. I will try removing these apps and see if I can use iTunes once more.
