For several weeks now I’ve been texting Mike and Mike says he’s been texting me back. We both have iPhones. What’s happening here?

I appreciate the moderator’s retitling my query. Nothing in the suggested solution seemed to apply to my case, which on its surface seems simple enough to understand—I use Mike’s phone number to text him and he receives all my texts; Mike turns around and uses my phone number to respond to my texts to him but I never receive those texts. Even when in the same room this event occurs. To the best of my knowledge this failure to receive a text has only occurred with my messaging with Mike.
I was trusting the steps to solving this would be simple but am now not so confident. Do I need to travel to an Apple store and work with a Genius Bar staff member?

This isn't making sense using Mike phone number to text Mike?

Sorry. I thought I was making this clear:
In iMessage I key in Mike’s phone number on my iPhone so my text goes to him, and he does receive my message.
Then in responding to my text, Mike keys in my phone number on his iPhone so his text goes to me.
But I’ve sent Mike several emails which he told me he’s received and to which he’s responded but I never received any of his responses.
I’ve never had this happen with any of my many other contacts. I’ve restarted my phone and Mike has done the same with his phone but that hasn’t corrected the problem.
Does anyone see a simple solution to this problem?
Did you block Mike? Settings > Apps > Messages > Blocked Contacts. When Mike calls you, do you get his calls? Are any Focuses enabled on your device?

Thanks to you I can now receive text messages back from Mike! So your solution was spot on.
My “blocked caller” list is lengthy thanks to everyone and their mother bugging me with this and that sales or political pitch plus those who want you to respond to some email address for what I assume is a nefarious reason that if you respond only leads to issues you don’t want to think about.
Question for you:
Can I assume that if you delete a number from that list it then makes it possible for someone using that number to get through to me again? It seems that’s the case since right after I deleted Mike’s number from that list I was able to once again receive text messages from him. Please let me know.
