iCloud for Windows 11: Error if "Pictures" folder is on another disk than C:

Hello,

If you use Windows' built-in option to move the "Pictures" folder to another drive (via Properties → Location → Move...), iCloud for Windows fails to synchronize Photos, showing this error in the logs:

ERROR WP::Daemon::Initialize '<DISK_LETTER>:\Users\<Username>\Pictures\iCloud Photos\Photos' is on incompatible disk.

This happens even if the new location is on a valid NTFS drive.

To fix the issue I had to :

  • Restore the Pictures folder to its default location on C:
  • Re-install the iCloud app

I don't know if there is a known workaround for this bug.
