Deficiencies with Calendar; this time with repetitive events

I rely on this Calendar - wish I didn't but I've been using it for years and it would be mighty difficult to change now. Biggest complaint: working with repeating events, of which I have dozens! If I alter a repeating event for one day only - something I do frequently (despite asking me if I only want to "Save for This Event Only") that altered event still shows as repeating! I've asked Applecare about it and got a convoluted/unhelpful answer. It seems the Calendar (& MacMail) is nothing is ever fixed or improved. I've spent thousands with Apple and the things I rely on the most (Calendar and Mac Mail) get no agency. Sigh.

You have created a repeating event. When you make a change and choose "Save for This Event Only", the change you make is only for that event. It is still a repeating event as you initially set it up and the only change is going to be the modifications you made to that single event. If you want the change you make to be reflected in your future events it will be if you choose "Save for Future Events". I just verified the behavior again by changing the Time and Notes of an event and saved it for that event only. All other events appear exactly how I initially set up the repeating event.

Ok, I think I understand. You are looking for some indication that an altered event has been changed, whether that is with a grey repeat message or maybe even an additional notation stating that the repeating event has been altered for that particalar event. In that case I think the provided Feedback link is the way to go.

The event is still going to be a repeating event no matter if it was edited or not. For example, if I create a repeating event that says to "Take Medication" and it is daily at 8:00, then on one day I change it to 9:00, it does not change the fact that "Take Medication" is a daily event.

Your memory has not failed you where previously the Repeat message did disappear when an event was edited, but I also think that is confusing because the event was still a repeating event. That is verified when you would go to delete/edit the event and it still asks you if you want to delete/edit Future events even though it is no longer labeled as repeating. I could only suspect that users were confused why an event that was not labeled as repeating is asking to delete Future events and they also sent Feedback seeking clarification.

Your suggestion for some additional visual cue that a repeating event has been altered would satisfy the confusion for both cases, so would suggest also using the Feedback link.

Hi Mac Jim ID, First, thank you for taking the time to reply! No, I get what you are saying and how a repeating event works. And yes, when I make a change to one, it only changes that one event and the rest remain unaltered. What's I'm complaining about is this: The one event I alter/change STILL says on it "This is a repeating event". To me, after I change it, it is no longer a repeating event, and the fact that the event continues to say "This is a repeating event" is confusing...because as time goes on and I go back to that altered event, and my memory is faulty, it will look like it is indeed a repeating event...and if I were to make an additional change to that particular (previously changed to a non-repeating event), it will ask me yet again if I want to save that one event or make the change to all the events...when it has been changed to NOT be a repeating event. I hope I am explaining this so you understand my complaint. If my memory serves (ha!), before Apple updated the OS, this didn't happen. When I changed an individual repeating event, that 'note' went away.

I may be repeating these replies! Sorry!!!! I will go to a repeating event and make a change, i.e. the time, or add a special note for that day. When I go to save it, it asks if I want to "Save for This Event Only" or "Save for Future Events". I will choose/press "Save for This Event Only". True it will save those changes for that event only, but when I look at that event, it STILL says "Repeats monthly/weekly" even though it does not show up again as an event with those changes. But it is confusing that it says "Repeats monthly" as there is no way of telling that it pertains to that specific date only. Hope I am making myself clear. I have (attempted!) to post a jpg of what my event looks like after I have edited to change only a particular day. (Will also copy&paste this reply to another responder.) Thanks so much!!!

For now I would stick with using Feedback for the feature request you identified to provide some visual notification on when a repeated event is edited. That is a clear feature that makes sense and should be understandable. As for listening to your feedback, you can be assured it will be read and most likely logged. Apple will consider requested enhancements, although as you could imagine, there must be some kind of criteria such as the number of users who have made a request or the significance of the feedback that will have some bearing. You should not expect any kind of communication on the progress of your submitted feedback.

As for your other complaints, I would suspect it could be some kind of bug although I have not seen it myself on my end. We can dig into those a little deeper if you can gather some screenshots or are able to figure out the exact sequence of events that would cause a repeating event to duplicate itself. It may be best to start a new post once that information is gathered and I would be happy to test/verify on my end in an attempt to determine the cause.

When I change a repeating event, I am given the option to "Save for this event only" or "Save for future events". For me it works exactly as expected where if I change a repeating event to a different day and choose "Save for this event only", that is exactly what it does and the previous repeating events remain unchanged. The event I change is moved to the different day and repeating is no longer an option.

Are you perhaps using a Google account, such as gmail, that is syncing with your Calendar app? The Calendar I am using is the iCloud calendar.

Thank for your comment (Sorry I didn't respond earlier...if I didn't). I just went back in my calendar to 2023 to a daily repeating event that I 'alter' every day. Back in 2023, yes, it did still say "Repeats Daily"...but it was in gray. Now, after altering the event, the "Repeats Daily" remains in red. If it went to gray, that would be fine, it would let me know that yes, it's a repeating event, but now that particular event has been altered. However, I did a 'test' on one of the old events where the 'Repeats Daily" is in gray and altered it and when I went to save it, it still tells me it's a repeating event and do I want to save it going forward, or just that one event. This just isn't logical to me...it's confusing, especially when going way back in time. What say you? TY

Thanks for that! I'm new to this and so I will have to check out that Feedback Link...Do you feel they listen to you and you see changes made??? Would you also suggest I post on Feedback my 'complaint' that many times I will delete a repeating event for one particular date only but somehow it will show up as a 'ghost' in the past when I know I deleted the past event. OR...(and I am sketchy on how/why this happens), a repeating event will duplicate itself and I will see it twice on a particular date, but if I delete the duplicate...poof, both end up going away...?! (I have a feeling, going forward, I'm going to be peppering you with things that have vexed me for a long time but never sought out the community.... ;-) )
