My phone company refuses to give me my old phone number because it would allow me to get back into some old cloud accounts. Those accounts are very private and valuable.

Yeah just as I figured. Everyone is out to use people for whatever they can get out out them. Just another reason why I have a strong distrust for people now. On the contrary, strong security prevents people from being scammed or having their private data compromised.
If you try to reset it password at https://iforgot.apple.com/ does it want you to enter a verification code sent to a trusted device it phone number?
