Non-functional built-in keyboard on MacBook A1708

Hi, I have a MacBook A1708, and something recently happened to it. The built-in keyboard isn't working. The backlight is on, and I can even use shortcuts at startup, like command r, etc., but after starting it, I can't enter my password or even type anything in the menu that opens after using command r. Any ideas on what I can do?

A work-a-round is plug in an external keyboard.

I would not spend any $$ on a repair for this old machine with an infamous "Butterfly" keyboard, which are subject to issues from the start... Repairs/replacements only carry a 90-day limited warranty.

If you made it this far with no keyboard issues, consider yourself lucky— time to upgrade to a newer machine is my recommendation.

Plug in a USB keyboard and see if that works.

If it does, then make a Time Machine backup of your data to an external drive.

Then seek service for the computer.
