Charged and plugged in to Car Play iPhone died while driving and Siri was giving me directions home.

My phone had plenty of charge and was plugged into car play; I have auto update set up and phone was plugged in all night. I asked Siri to direct me home and was following directions. It stopped working about the fourth turn. Next red light I force restarted it. Then I got a picture of two phones coming together and going apart back and forth. When I got home, my iPad told me my phone needed to be reset and updated to 18.5. There is no way it wasn’t up to date before this glitch. I had an important business call I was supposed to be making at the time the two phones started coming together. The advisor at 1-800-MYAPPLE told me that maybe someone in a passing car had a phone that communicated to mine and set up this glitch. That doesn’t sound reasonable to me. At the time this happened I was 12 miles from my iPad. My watch was working fine. This is unacceptable to me.

Search for accessories that have completed MFi certification. Once an accessory has completed MFi certification requirements and is reported to Apple as sold/distributed, it will be searchable in our public database of authorized Lightning, headset, charging, iAP-enabled, and Find My network-enabled accessories.

Learn how to identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning-based accessories.

Follow these steps:

  • Remove any debris from the charging port on the bottom of your device.
  • Restart your iPhone or iPod touch.
  • Try a different USB cable or charger.
  • Make sure you have the latest version of iOS.
