I’ve lost 3000 photos when trying to erase old phone

Hi, I tried to erase my old phone of all information and because it was linked to my new phone which I’d transferred everything to, it started to erase my photos. I’ve lost 3000 photos and don’t know how to get them back

iPhone 16e, iOS 18

I'm not quite sure what that means. If you're referring to iCloud Photos as a backup, then iCloud Photos backs up mistakes as efficiently as it backs up edits and revisions. That's why we say that iCloud Photos isn't a backup.

If you don't use iCloud Photos, but you have Settings>Apple ID>iCloud Backup turned on, then you may be able to recover data from the last 30 days or so, but you would need to look at the date of the backup to be sure it's from before you lost the images. You should look here:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

This is what you do when you buy a new phone, so this backup, if you have it, requires you to erase everything on your phone and replace it with the backup.

If you don't keep your own backups to an external drive, then there really isn't any place else to look.
