First, Apple is not on this forum. They moderate it but replies come from people like you. So there is nothing we can "do" about this.
2FA is becoming very common with many services. Older security methods were more prone to weaknesses such as people putting in answers to security questions that a simple web search could uncover. If you have an old account that does not require 2FA you can still use it but Apple will disable certain services unless you have 2FA. Remember, if your account gets hacked then Apple has to be involved in sorting out the mess, so they clearly will minimize this by requiring 2FA. You do have "freedom" but so does Apple in terms of what services they will offer under what conditions.
I am finding with the newer operating system that I have had to enter my Apple Account password about 6 times in the past 2 days. It simply just forgets it. Not sure why but I have just learned to put up with it.
If your account is locked then you can unlock it with your security question answers. If you have forgotten those then there probably isn't much you can do unless you can convince Apple in other ways and to their satisfaction you are the account owner.
