Notes Suddenly Disappeared

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro (macOS Monterey) and a 2017 iPhone 7 Plus - both are synchronize through iCloud such that they have identical notes. If I enter new note or modify a note from either device the update propagates to the other device.

I’ve used notes for many years.

Today something very strange occurred. I have 126 notes. However, on my MacBook all but 2 notes have disappeared. My iPhone still as the 126 notes.

I don’t want to lose these notes. I am worried I could lose all of these notes in an instant while troubleshooting.

Initially, I looked for a setting of some kind (on my macBook). I couldn’t find anything.
