Photo App - Exported videos turn to jpgs

I have all my photos and videos on my iPhone and ICloud I have a video editing app that I export both jpgs and movs to. This morning I was exporting videos and they export as images all of a sudden!! I took a lot of vids and jpgs while on vacation this past week. Is the storage full?

Don't think so as

I checked the folder photos Library.photoslibrary on my desktop and it is 6.35 gigs

Same as my iCloud

According to my desktop drive I have 103.75 GB worth of free space

I looked this topic up and see settings are set to optimize, I changed to Download originals to this Mac , same result but is this what I want?

anyone?

Just as Matti said, the results of dragging from Photos depend on the OS version, and possibly the phase of the moon. "File>Export>Export Unmodified Original" is a good way to get copy to an alternate editor.

You may be able to use "Image>Edit With…"

if your editor shows up there. I don't do much video stuff, so I'm not sure what editors work this way. You can see this

Edit with third-party apps and extensions in Photos - Apple Support

but I don't think that it says much about video.

Does "File>Export>Export Unmodified Original" work for you?

You talk about your phone, but you have a Mac listed in your signature, so it's unclear what you are doing. You say, "on my iPhone and ICloud I have a video editing app," but I don't see what you mean about an editing app on iCloud. You refer to "exporting videos--" was this from the Mac or a phone or an app at a web site?

Only you can tell us if your storage is full. On a phone, it's Settings>General>iPhone Storage. Mine says 42 GB of 128 GB used. What does yours say? What about at iCloud--Settings>Apple ID>iCloud. On the Mac it's at System Settings>General>Storage.

If you had Photos Optimized (on Mac or on Phone?) then the original pictures and videos are stored at iCloud, and they would have to be downloaded to be edited or exported. For "a lot of vids and jpgs" this could take quite a while. Changing to "Download Originals" will only work if you have enough free storage space.

Let us know what's actually going on, using numbers instead of "lots," etc, so we can help…

This is a Mac desktop issue sorry for confusion. I just want to make sure that I'm doing this right. I never bothered to think about this as I never had this problem as I take vids on my iPhone and they automatically upload to Photos on iCloud . I usually drag videos from my photo desktop on to my video editing app. So i'll wait for you before I go as I already checked storage space and

" checked the folder photos Library.photoslibrary on my desktop and it is 6.35 gigs

Same as my iCloud

According to my desktop drive I have 103.75 GB worth of free space so I don't think it's a storage issue.

Plz advize Thx

Your Photos Library is very small. Are you perhaps using the "Optimize Mac storage" option for iCloud to save storage on your Mac? Please check the Photos > Settings > iCloud. If you are not using the "Download originals" option but the "Optimize" option, then the "optimization" will remove the high resolution originals of your videos and drag&drop may just pass a still frame to the external editor, if the Mac needs to optimize the library a lot because the iCloud library is very large. Playing the video to force a download from iCloud, and then using "File > Export > Export unmodified original" is the safest way to stay in control when you want to be sure of the file format for the external editor.
