"Amazon Photo Installer" wrecking my life

Some time ago, probably after claiming a free trial, I had a subscription to Amazon Photos. I didn't continue to use it beyond the trial, but the software remained on my MacBook Air. The Amazon app would open on restart, and I basically just shut it down and ignored it because I didn't use it. Well, lately, and I don't know why, The "Amazon Photo Installer" has been randomly opening and immediately shutting down because of an error, displaying the window message shown in the screenshot attached. I thought I could get rid of it by just trashing Amazon Photo, but OS won't let me delete it, saying it can't be deleted because it's open. I thought I could Force Quit it, but it doesn't show up in the Force Quit menu. This happens a dozen times a day, and it's beyond annoying. Can anyone explain what is happening and/or provide a way out of this problem?

Yes. I had a similar experience with an Amazon app (maybe that one; I don't recall) and I ended up getting rid of it.

Easy way: Download and run EtreCheck, then post its report in a reply to this Discussion. Instructions are here:

How to use the Add Text Feature When Posting Large Amounts of Text, i.e. an Etrecheck Report - Apple Community

EtreCheck is a comprehensive utility that is almost certain to identify the files you need to remove.

Less easy way: Never mind the title, but refer to About those <app> will damage your computer messages - Apple Community. Scroll down to the heading Expanded instructions for everyone. It explains how to inspect the contents of three separate folders that will contain the files you need to remove, and how to post screenshots of them to this Discussion.

Either method is fine. Post the EtreCheck report, or those three screenshots, and then await instructions.

Thanks. The Amazon app is a Login Item. It shows the value of EtreCheck since my User Tip would not have addressed that possibility.

Refer to Open items automatically when you log in on Mac - Apple Support. Removing it from Login Items will prevent it from launching (and crashing) upon logging in. Remove it according to those instructions, and then drag its app icon to the Trash.

Major Issues:
Anything that appears on this list needs immediate attention.
Security updates disabled - Security updates are disabled. This computer is at risk of malware infection.
Apple security disabled - Apple security software is disabled. This computer is at risk of malware infection.

That is obviously not good... another justification for the value of EtreCheck.

That Mac's version of macOS is seriously outdated. It could be related to the fact that app is crashing, but that minor inconvenience would be the least of my concerns. Re-enable each of those options. There are no valid reasons to disable them.

Get rid of any and all Western Digital "drive manager" or similarly categorized utility. That one in particular had been known to spontaneously erase perfectly good Mac startup drives... and it gets worse, because:

No Time Machine backup - Time Machine backup not found.
