Syncing playlists iMac to iPhone each playlist overwritten

I sync a playlist to the iPhone (12) and it shows up fine. Then I sync another playlist, and the first playlist disappears. It appears that I can only have one playlist on the iPhone.

Most of my music was not purchased via Apple. Most of my music consists of individual songs arranged in playlists.
