I turn off the MacBook and the next day when I turn it on the battery has dropped by about 20 percent. The MacBook is a 2020 model with a new battery of 80 cycles, normal condition. Operating system Sequoia. What could be the cause?

Your computer performs best when connected to AC power, such as the power adapter. It can use the full output of the Power Adapter AND when doing especially challenging work will also freely "borrow" power from the battery. In some cases, even with the power adapter connected, the charged state may decline during very stressful work.
When used only on battery, your computer has no extra cushion of power, and may perform more slowly. However, for ordinary non-stressful tasks this may not be objectionable (possibly not even noticeable.)
In general, you should ALWAYS connect a power source when it is possible to do so, and only run on batteries (which could be somewhat slower) when no power sources are at hand. Modern Macs maintains optimum battery charge levels under program control, and will NEVER over-charge. Activate Battery Health Management and do not spend another moment of your time thinking about charging.
When you install a new battery, you need to completely charge that battery.
Power down your Mac and connect it to the power adapter for a long time, at least overnight. You need it to charge a few more hours beyond when it first thinks it is Full.
The battery was replaced under warranty, there were no problems. I have no problems with it. It lasts about 7-8 hours. The problem with the drain came after I uploaded the Sequoia operating system. There is just some problem with the operating system. From what I see on the forum, the problem is not only with me

when you THINK it should be going to sleep, it actually sleeps:
get ready to put it to sleep with cover OPEN.
press the CapsLock key to light the indicator.
Choose sleep off the Apple Menu.

Did you in fact replace that battery? The symptoms you describe are consistent with it being defective.
Replace it again under warranty. I don't know what other advice you are expecting of your fellow Apple product users here. It's broken; fix it.
