One of my family members in our group chat of five received a copy of the same photo I sent in a different chat other than the group. He had slipped into MMS while on wifi. It created a duplicate message stream with all members. He deleted the incorrect created group and lost the entire chat history. Why is this happening?

Is everyone an iphone user or is there a mix of iphone and android, if the latter then it would be MMS.
