hey, i have a imac late 2013, with mac OS catalina 10.15.7 and want to purchase a version of logix X pro that works on my mac. is this possible? i have not purchased logic X before from the app store

Unless you know someone who has a copy or you backed it up yourself, you will not be able to roll back easily.
You need the correct OS to download a specific version of Logic Pro. This thread covers it well:

It seems that Apple have changed their procedures here
Previously:
A) you could NOT purchase the app with a Mac running an older OS, but you COULD purchase Logic Pro on a Mac running the required macOS (Friend/Store demo Mac etc) logged in temporarily with your Appstore details (log out afterwards)
Then
B) on your Mac, login and download Logic Pro .... the Appstore would offer you the latest version that would run on your Mac.

I can confirm that, (with my previously purchased copy of Logic Pro), I have (so far) been unable to download an older compatible version on Catalina or Mojave Macs.
I was also unable to purchase on a Catalina Mac.

Just wanted to close the loop here and it looks like you are right. Deleted Logic from an older computer and tried to download it only to see an error message. I do hope they come out with a better solution for this.
When you purchase Logic Pro through the App Store, it provides a version that is compatible with your OS (Catalina). I recommend 10.6 to 10.6.3 for reliability.
