Apple mail and gmail doesn't sync quickly after updating to sequoia

2 weeks ago I updated my iMac M1 to Sequoia and everything went smoothly. Only the mails are giving me a headache. I takes a very long time to import the mails in apple mail from gmail. It tried different things. None worked.

I deleted the gmail account and logged in again, but the same problem remains.

The Activity Monitor of mail shows it has to import a lot of mails. See attachment.
