Transferring Microsoft Office apps to new Macbook

Hello community,

I have just purchased a new MacBook Air and would like to transfer my current Microsoft Office apps (Word, OneNote, Excel and PowerPoint) to my new device, however I'm not sure if this is something one can actually do. Is anyone familiar with this process? I made a one-time purchase back in 2020 of these apps so I'm not keen on buying the Microsoft apps again if I don't have to.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

I don't believe there was a Microsoft Office 2020. That would suggest that you have Office 2019.

You might want to read this thread: Microsoft inactivating Office 2019 demand… - Apple Community . The OP there wanted to use Office 2019 on a new Mac, but was blocked by the activation DRM. It sounds like that OP contacted Microsoft Support but found no satisfaction there.

If you can't get Office 2019 to work, and are inclined to buy or rent a new version, Microsoft 365 – Compare All Microsoft 365 Products has a table comparing Microsoft 365 "subscription" plans with Office Home 2024.

There are also free alternatives such as LibreOffice , and the Apple applications included with your Mac (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote – which you might need to download at no charge from the App Store).

If it is possible to activate Office 2019 on a new Mac, you would probably want to download a fresh copy. I saw an Office 2019 link on Microsoft | Microsoft 365 – Download Microsoft 365 (Formerly Office 365) that had my hopes up, for a moment.

Clicking it led to a page that said "Upgrade from Office 2019 to Microsoft 365" with buttons leading to the current plans. There was a "Looking for Office 2019 support? / Learn more" link, but clicking it led to a page with the error message "Sorry, the page you're looking for can't be found."

Oh well …
