I've been trying for several months to delete Apple Maps or delete the data from it because it's taking up 6.5 GB on my phone! I've tried everything and no longer have any favorites or saved maps or anything like that on it! Even when I "delete" the app, it is still taking up 6.5 GB! Please let me know what I can do! Mine is 20GB and same issues. There have been threads on this for over 1 year saying that you should backup your phone, reset it entirely and restore, which is the worst fix I have ever heard of. All of them get closed by administrators.
Please, Apple, fix this. It's a bug. This looks like cache growing and never being cleaned up even if the app itself is offloaded or deleted.
