Disappearance of 4500 photos after iOS update on iPhone 12

After i updated my Iphone before that i had 5000 photos, and after that i have only 500 the ones i have synchronized with i cloud, i have lost all of the rest pictures!!!!! Tragic!! I cant find them anywhere, even eif I haven’t saved it on i cloud ok, how can an update just disappear 4500 pictures, i called for apple support in my country, they couldn’t provide me any solution, like they just keep saying that its nor synchronized with my i cloud, well ok but they were ON my phone! So Frustrated with Apple!

That's terrible! The thing is, sometimes pictures are transferred to a phone, perhaps from a computer or some other device, in a way that doesn't give Photos full access to them, and they can't be preserved even in iCloud. That's why Apple's advice is to always backup before doing major things like updating the OS. Still, we can't know the details, so we can't be much help. The link

If you're missing photos or videos in the Photos app - Apple Support

gives pretty much all the possibilities. If you don't keep your own backups to an external drive, then there really isn't any place else to look.
