Airport Express firmware uipdate

OK! have the Express configured as an 'extender' using an ancient iMac and OS 8.n.n. However now am unablet to monitor the express even though is show up and running. Airport Utility say "This machine not compatible with this OS".

Is there any way to upgrade the firmware so it can work with my new machine for monitring? i.e. using Airport Utility?

I'd suggest getting a new Wi-Fi router.

I have retired my AirPort Extreme 802.11g and AirPort Extreme 802.11n 5th Generation a long time ago. For a while I used a hack or an old Mac to configure them but then moved on.

Airport Utility 5.6 is the last version of Airport Utility that maintained support for Apple Airport Snow, Airport Extreme built prior to January 2007 and 1st generation Express. All subsequent versions of Airport Utility no longer communicated with the above mentioned models of Apple wireless access points and routers.

Airport Utility 5.6 cannot be installed on any Mac OS later than OS X 10.7 Lion.

If you try to launch it on any OS X newer than OS X 10.9 Mavericks you just get an error saying "You can’t use this version of the application Airport utility 5.6.1 with this version of Mac OS.""

Is this AirPort Utility on the "ancient iMac", or AirPort Utility on the "new machine"?

If it is the "new machine".......all that you can try to do is use AirPort Utility on the "ancient iMac" to update the firmware on the Express as high as it will go.

Then, after that firmware update is complete, use AirPort Utility on the "new machine" to try to update the firmware on the Express again. The most up to date firmware for the Express is 7.8.1

The only thing previously mentioned for the 'older OS' was the original WiFI aetup all alse is for the OS 18.5 machine.

Now that I think about it, the original 'extender' was an older Extre,e as we; and suspect that it actually dropped out when I upgraded to OS 18.1 but noticed that the thruput was getting where it belong; my Solar Cell company; as I could do lookups on their website and see the morning's generated amount in the afternoon.

Guess will have to find an alternate to Airport just because of Apple's PROPRIETARY operations.
