Apple facial recognition creating a new profile for me in Photos

Scrolling through photos and saw that Iphone made a new profile for me a while back, what does this mean.

Original Title: In the photos person profile, why was there a new profile created that is still me. Does this mean that my appearance changed significantly and apple facial recognition can no longer recognize my old face

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 18

Photos scans an image for faces and records the features, and then it tries to make an ID. If it starts with baby pictures, for instance, it may think the adult is different. This can happen with faces that look the same to us, but have some differences that Photos may be using to exclude duplicates. You just have to teach it that they are the same.

If you have two People Albums with the same faces, then you can merge them by dragging one over the other. It'll ask if you're sure. Then it will learn that they are the same.
