FaceTime Effects Not working in iPadOS 18.5 for iPad 9

I heard that you can do FaceTime hand gestures. I tried a heart but it wasn’t generating the hearts. I’m on iPadOS 18.5, tried control center, gestures, and it’s still not working. This is all on a iPad 9.
