I know no of broad reason(s) why your Apple devices would not work across the Xfinity gateway security eco to access the internet. There may be some specific features of the gateway advanced service that the macOS may not be able to leverage, but I would be very surprised if you cannot use Apple devices.

You should contact your Xfinity provider and ask what they know about using Apple devices on their network.

I concur with D.I. Johnson.

To add a bit:

Yes—you can absolutely use your iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and AirPods with an Xfinity gateway. Apple devices are fully compatible with standard Xfinity routers and gateways. However, when opting for the latest advanced gateways like the XB8 (Wi‑Fi 6E) or XB10 (Wi‑Fi 7), some Apple users have reported connectivity quirks related to how these gateways handle the newer Wi‑Fi bands and security protocols. This is not limited to just the Xfinity brand.

So what are some of these “Advanced Services” on Xfinity Gateways? For the Xfinity Gateway they typically relate to the following:

  • Tri‑band Wi‑Fi support (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz) for higher throughput and less interference.
  • xFi Advanced Security — this is a built‑in, gateway‑level cybersecurity suite that includes real‑time protection from malware, phishing, and suspicious activity for all connected devices.
  • xFi App Controls — parental controls, device pausing, guest network options, speed management, and network diagnostics.

Some of the reported problems with Apple devices with these advanced features:

  • The Wi‑Fi 6E band (6 GHz) only supports WPA3, while 2.4/5 GHz often use WPA2 or WPA3‑Transition. If your Apple device mismatches these settings, it may drop off or refuse to reconnect.
  • MAC Address Randomization or iOS Private Relay features can sometimes be mistaken for VPN traffic, leading to blocked access on Xfinity’s network unless you disable those features on your device.
