Why can't Apple Contacts App parse an address?

I often have an address I want to add to a contact (existing or new). Could be in an email or on a Web page, for example. It's such a pain to have to copy and paste each part of the address a a separate action. Why can't the app at least attempt to parse into the various components?

When I press and hold on an address in an email, web page or another source, one of the options is to Add to Contacts, and for me at least is does parse the Street, State, and Zip Code into the appropriate fields. Is that something you have tried?

There is no setting for it. Here is one to try. In this case, double tap to select the whole address for Apple, since it is not encoded as a single address link:

One Apple Park Way, Cupertino, CA 95014.

When the Cut, Copy, Replace comes up, keep tapping the right arrow on the pop up until you get to Add to Contacts. Other options you will find there are Get Directions and Open in Maps.

The rest of my reply isn’t showing. Here it is

Worcestershire County Cricket Club, New Road, Worcester, WR2 4Q

doesn’t.

Most UK companies and other organisations don’t have building numbers. I had to invent one for Worcs CCC.

It gives me an option though. I can copy and paste into Notes, for example, and with a bit of editing, get it recognised. A bit easier than the way I have been doing it.

Thanks for that. Very interesting. That works, as do some other addresses I have tried, both UK (where I **) and US. However, it seems that the address has to be on one line, break it over several lines and it stops recognising it as an address. It seems to me that in the UK, it’s normal to show addresses on several lines. It also seems to need a building or house number:

Worcestershire County Cricket Club, 12 New Road, Worcester, WR2 4Q

works but

Worcestershire County Cricket Club, New Road, Worcester, WR2 4Q

doesn’t.
