How do I clear web content history on iPad?

This has been going on for quite some time. I am still not fully sure how to actually clear my history. If anyone could explain how to do this or simply offer advice that would be great!

@1019kkk, I don't have this issue and it's likely because I don't have any restrictions set up. The message "Clearing your history is not available while web content restrictions are enabled" directly points to Screen Time. When "Web Content Restrictions" are active, especially if set to "Limit Adult Websites" or "Only Allowed Websites," the option to clear your Safari history is greyed out. This is an intentional feature by Apple to ensure that a managed user cannot bypass the content filters by simply deleting their history.

To clear your history, you'll need to temporarily adjust or disable these restrictions. This usually requires the Screen Time passcode. If you are not the one who set up Screen Time (e.g., a child on a parent-managed device), you will need to ask the person who set it up for the passcode.

  1. Open the "Settings" app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Scroll down and tap on "Screen Time." You might be asked to enter your Screen Time passcode here.
  3. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions
  4. Here you can just disable this and slide the slider to the left if it is on. If it is off, it should be grey out.
  5. If it's off, then you need to slide it on, to allow yourself to turn some things off
  6. Tap Store, Web, Siri, & Game Content
  7. Tap Web Content
  8. Choose "Unrestricted Access": This is the key step. Change the setting from "Limit Adult Websites" or "Only Allowed Websites" to "Unrestricted Access."
  9. Once you've changed the web content setting, go back to the main "Settings" screen.
  10. Scroll Down and Tap Safari
  11. You should now find this option is no longer greyed out. Tap it.
  12. Confirm your choice by tapping "Clear History and Data" again.
