Panic over. I found all the files still in the iCloud folder and dragged them back again.

I see Apples iCloud still hasn't become any better then :( . the iCloud info button still seems to think it's uploading my desktop and documents folders by the looks of it though as it's churning through GBs of data. Im hoping/assuming its just old and will give up soon.

Out of all the things I wish apple would improve - iCloud is at my top. They really should have something more akin to Dropbox by now.

I think that most of us would say that, if you want something like DropDox, you should get DropBox. iCloud just isn't designed to be a separate storage device like an extra hard drive. iCloud is a synchronization service. Its job is to keep access to files and images on your Mac, on your iPhone, and on your iPad exactly the same. iCloud is not an extra drive, and iCloud is not a backup. If that's what you want or need, then iCloud may not be for you. There are plenty of DropBox-like services available.

I dont want iCloud to be a storage device, just to be a place I can reliably save my files. The main issue I have with it is its just too slow and flakey. File history would be nice - but just speed and reliability akin to dropbox would be a start. If TimeMachine worked well then it wouldnt be such an issue for me - but that hasn't been improved in years and isnt really fit for purpose.

This latest panic was totally fault for forgetting how slow iCloud was.

(In the end I turned off iCloud syncing and turned it back on again and itfixed it upload/download process glitch)
