When i hide alerts on a specific messages thread, why doesnt it hide push notifications as well?

Hi there,

I have a thread in my Messages app with a lot of my husband’s family members in it. It’s a busy thread that can sometimes go off at inconvenient times (like for example, when I’m at work)

I’ve gone into the settings for that thread and enabled “Hide Alerts” but it still shows push notifications for this thread

Is there a reason why “hide alerts” doesn’t hide push notifications? And if it’s because push notifications don’t count as alerts, why isn’t there an option to hide push notifications as well?

I can’t use a focus for this issue because there are several people in the chat who aren’t in my contact list so I can’t target them.

Also, I can’t turn off push notifications altogether because I have to be able to see what I’m being texted by coworkers/my boss.

Hello!

What do you call a “push notification?” When you get an alert from this group, are you mentioned by name?

iOS has a feature which will allow Messages to notify you when you are mentioned by name, even if you have the group chat silenced. To turn it off, go to: Settings > Apps > Messages > Notify Me. Toggle that switch off and see if the problem persists.

Hello,

I'm so sorry! I just realized I left out a word when describing the issue.

I meant to add the word "badge". Basically that little red circle with a number in it that appears on apps (like the Messages app, like this for example: https://bryce.co/non-numeric-app-badges/message-notification-light.png )

When muting a chat thread, I don't want to see # of notifications included in the Messages badge. So for example, if I have 3 new messages from my employer and 23 new messages from my husband's family chat, I only want to see a "3" in the Messages badge (because the family chat is muted but my boss is not)

If there's a way to do this via the "Focus" functionality, please let me know and I'll alter my current focuses to include the feature.
