Merging iCloud Accounts in Family Sharing while preserving previous data

Original Title: I added my husband to my family sharing icloud. They are both present on his phone. How do we show only the shared plan and pay for only the shared plan? Also, I want to make sure he doesnt' lose his previous stored items.
