Linked PDFs do not work in Apple Books

I recently purchased two linked PDFs. If I bring one of them up in Preview, the links to the other PDF work correctly. If I bring one of the up from Books, which displays it in Preview, the links do not work. According to the PDF publisher, the links work if both PDFs are in the same directory. How does Books store its PDFs and is there a way to get intra-PDF links to work when launching Preview from Books?
