Unable to identify notification sounds in Safari on my MacBook Pro

I often hear a notification sound, but I have no clue where it comes from. If it is from an opened tab on Safari, why can't Safari point me to the right one?

Quit Safari as IdrisSeabright wrote.

If the mysterious sounds persist quit all remaining open apps (use the "App Switcher" keyboard shortcut and quit each app in turn until only the Finder remains):

  • Command-Tab: Switch to the next most recently used app among your open apps.

If that doesn't help restart your Mac in "Safe Mode" and let it run overnight while in that mode.

Refer to this excerpt from Stop unwanted Notifications - Apple Community:

  • Launch the Safari app from Applications, Launchpad, or the Dock. You know the Safari app is open when its name appears adjacent to the  (Apple) menu in your Mac's menu bar.
  • Open Safari's Preferences (or Settings) menu > Websites > Notifications, and remove everything there. See the illustration below.
  • For browsers other than Safari, scroll down to Browsers Other Than Safari.

You can probably identify the offending website in that first screenshot. If you wish to continue, read below.

When you are finished, it should look like this:

The computer sounded a notification at about 3 AM while I had been in bed for about 5 hours. Yes, the lid was closed the whole time.

Now, that I'm using the computer for the first 2 minutes, I have heard the notification sound about half a dozen time with no notification in sight. Actually, it is sounding every few seconds. I just quit the weather app. A T-storm warn is in effect. Who knows?

I have closed all my Safari tab, except for this forum.

I got to hear that same notification beep at 3 am even though I was not using the computer.

There's a T-storm right now, and it is almost constantly beeping. I have tried to remove Severe Weather notifications of Mac Weather app, but no change. It's embarrassing!

The T-storm has finally passed (it is now sunny), and so is the frequent beeping.

So far, I would say, I think it might very well be related to the Mac Weather app forecasting locally, here in Canada. We've had a lot of T-storms lately.

I will nonetheless try your suggestion overnight.

Quitting Safari did not help in any way.

If I keep the weather app closed for a while, the beeping goes away. It's been about an hour so far. No more super annoying random beeping! Yes, I did disable "Play sound for notifications" in settings, but that made no difference.
