Downloaded albums not showing up in Music on iPhone

I have been using iTunes for a long time. I love it and it could have been made just for me. I don’t stream and don’t have an Apple Music subscription, because I have heard too many horror stories about people losing their own music once they stop subscribing. So all my music is downloaded into an iTunes library on my laptop and I transfer it over on to my iPhone.

For years this has worked well, without any issues, but recently I am having more and more problems. The biggest issue is that a lot of my music no longer shows up in the artist or albums section on Music on my phone. The music is on there, because it appears when I search for it, but otherwise there’s no sign of it. I managed to fool my phone with some of them, by amending the details in the iTunes folder, by either putting a full stop after the artist name or putting [album] after the album’s title. This has made around half of what was missing suddenly reappear, but for other artists there doesn’t seem to be anything I can do to make the albums show up in the ‘Albums’ or ‘Artists’ view.

Has anybody else had this issue, and if so, did you manage to fix it? Because it’s driving me mad. Particularly as I get the Impression this is a deliberate problem that Apple have created, to try to drive people towards Apple Music subscriptions. Any help, hints, tricks to get around this, etc, will be very gratefully received. Thanks, Paul
