My external monitor speakers are not showing up on my MacBook Air

After traveling and using my MacBook Air (M1, 2020, Sequoia 15.5) using both the built-in speakers and headphones for Zoom calls, I can no longer access the speakers in my external monitor (HP E27m G4 QHD)--they no longer appear in the "Sound" pull-down menu in my Mac's Settings. The HP speakers worked perfectly before now. The monitor's webcam is still working with my MacBook--only the speakers are offline. Help?!

Try this: disconnect the monitor from your Mac, restart the Mac, then plug the monitor back in after it’s fully booted. Once it’s connected, go to System Settings > Sound and check if the monitor speakers show up again. That usually does the trick.

Thanks, tried that. In the meantime I see that HP has issued a firmware update BUT it's for Mac OS 12.0 and earlier. (!!!) So looks like I'm SOL with this monitor and its sound function. Waiting for the webcam and other functions to crash as well.
