How can I stop anyone else from using one of our HomePods?

We have five HomePods (Gen.1) and six HomePod minis in various locations around our house, including one HomePod mini located outside (yes I know) in our patio area.

This latter one could be used to play music by a neighbour or their guests? I'm guessing that would be the case, and that despite not being a listed user on our Home or connected to our WiFi network, I would think they could simply say "Hey Siri! Play some music" whilst we're away?

Is there any way to stop this from potentially happening?

Anyone can use HomePods for general tasks such as playing music, it is only your personal information that is protected by your voice. While you are on vacation to prevent access to your outside HomePods, of course you can unplug it or set up your Router to be able to control which devices are connected to your WiFi network. Some routers will allow you to manage this remotely too.

I was just pondering whether I could prevent it happening whether by way of a prank or by mistake: last evening we were on the patio having dinner and playing some music and our neighbours were also closer than usual to the boundary entertaining. It would only take one of them to try to play some music on their phone for our HomePod to pick up the command instead.

The options you suggest don't really work as the wiring passes through the eaves of the garage and the plug itself is high up in the garage, plus the rear security camera uses the Wifi which is on the same set of switches.

Actually, the reverse is true. Only HomePods can recognize individual voices. iPhones and iPads cannot. However, I don't think you can prevent other voices from accessing basic functions.

Unless your neighbors consisted of teenagers (or the intellectual equivalent), it seems unlikely that they would do this. And, even if they did, what is the worst that could happen? They ask for country music but you're a classic rock fan?

Our neighbours do indeed have children and they do tend to invite people around for the occasional party that last late into the night and on one occasion we're aware of, led to some antisocial behaviour afterwards.

It's not really a major problem if we're at home because we can deal with it.

The problem is if we're away and can't do anything about it until we become aware it's happening.
