Macbook Air m4 15 inch shuts down at 10-15% charge and will only turn back on if it is plugged in.

Hi everyone,

I recently bought the new MacBook Air M4 (15-inch), and I’ve been noticing a recurring issue with the battery behavior.

When the battery reaches around 10–15%, the MacBook shuts down abruptly. It doesn’t go into sleep or give a low battery warning — it just turns off instantly. The only way to power it back on is to plug it into the charger. Once it starts back up, the battery still shows around 10–12%, so it’s not actually empty.

Here’s what I’ve already tried (as guided by Apple Support):

  • Booting in Safe Mode
  • Running Apple Diagnostics (no issues found)
  • macOS is fully updated
  • Battery status shows “Normal” & 100%
  • No signs of overheating or third-party kernel extensions

This behavior happens consistently, and it seems to be some kind of power management or calibration issue.

Is anyone else with an M4 MacBook Air experiencing the same problem? Would appreciate any insights or fixes if available.

Thanks in advance!
