This is what I finally ended up with.

Apps on the mini SSD

Data on the LaCie HDD

Use alias / links to move data from computer location to HDD (iTunes, Mail, IOS Backups)

No room on computer SSD

Plugs on the TS3Plus Hub

No daisychain

SanDisk 512 Gb SSD for sneaker net

For first time in decades

Logging into system (Mojave) on my computer

Not on a external HDD.

Also forgot to mention lagniappe

CalDigit provided code to insure Apple USB Super Drive works.

in my experience not a small boon
