My old iPod Touch 6 has battery percentage display problems.

For example while it’s charging, it is at 35%, but the next time I turn it on, it displays 25%. Please tell me why this bug happens.

iPod, iOS 12

I didn’t unplug it

In that case:

    • once the percentage figure drops, look at the display. Is the small lightning bolt still being shown (to the right of the battery icon)?
      1. if it is, that suggests there is a problem with the battery
      2. if the lightning bolt icon is not being shown, or turns off and on, that suggests that the iPod is not getting any power from the charger or power is intermittent

If the iPod is no longer being charged, or the lightning bolt goes off and then back on, that indicates that either:

    1. the cable is faulty. Look for damage when the cable goes into the back of the plug. Check both ends of the cable
    2. there is dirt in the iPod's cable port. If there is, very gently get it out, either by gently blowing into the port or with something non-metallic (i.e. a wooden toothpick). Take extra care not to damage the various arts of the socket, it's very delicate
    3. the power supply is not working or is intermittent. If the charger is suspected and if the cable is in good condition, try another charger. A USB port on your computer should work.

Here's an example of a damaged cable:

If the cable is damaged, perhaps you have access to another one in better condition (a sibling or friend perhaps).

If this problem occurs when using a USB port on a computer, that suggests that the USB outlet is faulty.

We would need more information before being able to provide a more accurate answer, but as an indication that what you see is probably considered normal for the 6th generation model;

If you mean that while on charge, the percentage indicator shows 35%, but having unplugged it from charge and then turning it on it states 25%, that is what I would expect. The 6th generation iPod Touch doesn't have the best battery life, even when it was new.

So it may just be normal behaviour. It might also be that the battery's lifespan is now shorter and that it's showing signs of age.
