FaceTime button grayed out for new iPhone 16 user

My husband just switched from a samsung to an iphone 16 and when we tried to facetime him yesterday the button is grayed out in his contact Info. My daughter tried and she cant do it either. He can call us but we cant call him without sending an “invite” through text. Ive reset and gone through all the steps, even contacted support and NOTHING. Even deleted his contact info and put it back in. Still nothing.

A few thoughts:

Seems we first need a strong enough wi-fi signal for FaceTime calls.

Sometimes restarting an iPhone will restore order if something is not working as expected ...

(ie: deletes temporary files, re-establishes connections, may update recent setting changes etc, and more.)

Your husband's new iPhone (or yours, and your daughter's ) may need updating to the newest iOS18 version:

NB.: Reminder: it is wise to back-up an iPhone before updating iOS)

Eg: About iOS 18 Updates - Apple Support Eg: says: OS 18.5 is the latest version.

and "This update introduces ..... other features, bug fixes, and security updates for your iPhone"

To check: You can go to settings > General > Software Updates
