My guitar won't connect to GarageBand on iPad

I am connecting my anygig guitar to garage band on iPad Air using iRig interface with line-in iBall portable speaker I get no response, no amplification or recording, I have tested most settings. Input Level (automatic) indicates a signal, but no sound. However, using the same setup with Amplitude instead of GB I can get sound amplification. Help requested please. Does GB require iRig 2 instead of my current earlier version iRig 1?
