Ipod Classic (6th gen): Sync only working one-way from Apple Music

Starting June 1, when i sync my ipod, it only syncs one-way, from my MacBook Pro to the ipod. As a result, play counts and podcast progress aren't being communicated to my laptop. It worked before then. I've tried switching between manual and auto-sync, but no change. Any ideas? I know it's not debilitating, just irritating since I enjoy having all that metadata accurate.
