iTunes changing music file paths

Hello,

I have a very large iTunes library stored on external hard drive named "Music". I back this drive up to a second external hard drive named "Music 2". Recently, I noticed some files are being found by iTunes on "Music" and others on "Music 2" when both are connected. When I disconnect "Music 2" iTunes cannot locate half of my music because the path leads to "Music 2" for those files.

I can consolidate my library to "Music" drive with both drives connected, but I'm worried it will duplicate everything that's already on the "Music" drive since both drives are identical.

Any ideas on how to consolidate the library with identical data on both drives. I'm thinking of just getting a new hard drive and consolidating everything to that if there are no options.

Seems like the last couple of years iTunes is continuing to not locate files and I don't move or rename anything.

Thanks!
