iMessage notifications work but not WhatsApp on new Apple Watch SE

I have a new Apple Watch. It’s showing as connected to my phone on control centre and am getting notifications of iMessage. However no WhatsApp notifications are coming through. All notifications and permissions are turned on and mirroring too. When I go to Bluetooth on my phone is says connected to Apple Watch. When I go to Bluetooth on the watch I just get spinning wheels looking for device?

since meta(facebook) don't make a native whatsapp for apple watch all it can do is to display the notifications the iPhone would otherwise display this mean that even if it's a cellular watch it would require to be within iPhone range to show notifications.
