apple intelligence not working when set to English UK June 2025

I live in the UK and bought my iPhone 16 in the UK in November 2024. My phone will only work with the new Siri and AI if I set my region to English US on my iPhone. Plus I can't get Siri to work at all on my Mac as my Mac is set to language UK because if I change that to USA I get all the American holidays in my calendar which, obviously, I don't want.

Every time I try to go back to English UK on my iPhone it resets my Siri to "old" Siri and takes away all the Apple AI features.

When will this be fixed. When will AI finally be out of Beta?

You should certainly buy the tool that best meets your needs. I would point out that Samsung doesn't have Apple Intelligence at all so of course you won't have problems with it on a Samsung.

Just to be absolutely clear. On your phone, if you go to Settings>General>Language & Region>Region, it's set to UK? Even if it says that it is, reselect it. Sometimes it gets confused. Then, go to Settings>Language & Region>Preferred Languages and make sure that the top language is English UK. Then, go to Settings>Apple Intelligence & Siri and make sure that the Language is set to English (UK). You might also want to to to Settings>General>Keyboards and make sure the to one listed is English (UK). Also, if you have any dual language keyboards, try removing that.

On your Mac, go to System Settings>General>Language & Region and do the same thing.

The issue seems to be that some of the newer Siri and AI features, like the upgraded voice and more advanced capabilities, might be tied to the English US region for now. When you switch to English UK, certain features may revert to an older version of Siri, which doesn't have the same level of functionality.

They are available with UK English.

Unfortunately, right now, this seems to be a bit of a region-locking issue. Changing your region to US gives you those new features, but I get that it messes with things like your calendar and local preferences.

Those features should be available in the UK.

I’d recommend keeping an eye out for any updates. Apple will continue to roll out improvements.

Hi Idris

Yes, language and region is set to UK English on both. It works for a few days and then randomly reverts to “old” Siri again.

To be honest I’m really regretting buying this iPhone. I was with Samsung for 13 years before this and hardly had any problems. I only switched because my kids have iPhones and it was easier for FaceTime etc.

I reckon I’ll go back to Samsung in the New Year if these issues aren’t fixed.

thanks for responding both.

Hi Idris,

Yes, I’ve just re-checked all the settings and they are as you describe.

I’m hoping that iOS 26 will sort out these issues

The problem with hoping an update will sort things out is that usually, the problem is something specific to you and updates don't help. But, may your issue will be different.

One question I forgot to ask. Are you you using a VPN? If so, try deleting it from your phone and seeing if that fixes things.
