Connecting Dual Monitors to my MacBook Air m4

Hi guys,

I'm trying to connect 2 of the same monitors to my MacBook air. Due to only having usb-c and 1 headphone jack in the laptop, I also bought the following docking station. Alogic MV2 USB-C Dual Display DP Alt Mode Docking Station. DUCDMV2 - Bing Lee

These are the monitors I have. Lenovo G27c-30 27" FHD 165hz/1ms Curved Gaming Monitor 66F3GAC2AU - Bing Lee

The monitors came with DP cables that I could not plug into the docking station. I then went and bought DP male to HDMI male cables to connect the monitors to the docking station. These did not work so I tried to use two ordinary HDMI cables which seemed to work. However, only one monitor is appearing in my display setting on my MacBook. Both monitors are turning on and displaying the MacBook screen, but they are displaying the same thing and only 1 of the screens are coming up in the display settings, despite holding down control and searching for other displays.

Does anyone have any kind of idea how I can get both the monitors to come up in display settings so I can use them as 2 separate screens?

Thank you

Macs do not support DisplayPort MST daisy-chaining or its equivalent. If you want to connect two monitors to the same dock, that dock has to be a Thunderbolt dock, not just a plain USB-C one.

I see no indication that the Alogic MV2 is a Thunderbolt dock. The page to which you linked even says

"With MacOS only a single monitor is supported in extension mode. Multiple monitors are ONLY supported in mirror mode."

You could connect one monitor through that dock and another directly to the M4 MacBook Air (with the help of a USB-C to DisplayPort or USB-C to HDMI adapter cable.). Another option would be to replace that Alogic docking station with a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 dock or hub that could support connection of two monitors (though perhaps at refresh rates lower than 165 Hz).

Other World Computing, SonnetTech, and CalDigit are have been in the business of selling high-end Thunderbolt equipment to Mac users for many years – and are the vendors that would be at the top of my list if I was shopping for a Thunderbolt dock.
